Our History

1414996202_3298.png

In the 1997-1998 school year, MIS began the school year on its present site in a purpose built campus funded generously by Mobil Oil, Inc. Enrollment grew to new highs. Following the withdrawal of Mobil Oil from Mantin, our student numbers began to fall again.

In 2002, MIS became an authorized school with the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization becoming the first school in Sumatra to offer this prestigious programme.

In 2003, MIS was authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme.

In 2017, MIS was authorized to offer the Diploma Programme, and the 2018-2019 school year mark our first graduating Grade 12 cohort.

Now we have approximately 50% Malaysian students, 24% of which holds dual citizenship and around 30% expatriate students.

Our Facilities

The MIS campus has the feel of a tropical garden. It is an oasis of peacefulness set amongst Mantin. It has spacious classrooms, a library, a computer lab, a science laboratory, an early childhood center, two swimming pools, an indoor gymnasium with a stage, an art room, a music room, a full-sized soccer field, and three outdoor playgrounds, and an administration building. We have a fully Wifi campus and a state-of-the-art Apple-based computer lab. Our campus allows for optimal conditions to educate both the mind and the body.

The board has begun an ambitious renewal project for the entire campus.  Starting with the renewal of the swimming pool area.  In August of 2015, we opened our new science lab to support upper-level science courses.

LIBRARY

"The purpose of Mantin International School is to provide a high quality, internationally accredited education which places the development of each student at the center of educational endeavors". The MIS library supports this aim. MIS follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum that aims "to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect". In each subject, all students are encouraged to be able to independently find appropriate information to enhance their studies.

MIS believes that the library is the heart of the school, and much effort has been made to create a comfortable environment for students of all ages.

RESOURCES

The MIS library has about 16,000 books, such as picture books, big books, fiction books, non-fiction books, and reference materials. There are two computers which the students and teachers can use for searching and checking books in and out.

The school is now also a member of Scholastic Book Club, an international English book provider that offers age-specific, latest English books with free delivery worldwide.
